BS Islamic Studies

Program Description

BS Islamic Studies Program, launched in 2018 at GIFT, is now entering a new phase. The program has been redesigned to cater in a better way to the educational, intellectual and social needs of the students. A conscious effort has been made to make this program one of the best choices for those students, especially the young promising girls, who want to obtain a BS degree in a Humanities or Social Sciences with in Islamic orientation.

Career Prospects

With its uniquely designed curriculum and the envisaged objectives, the degree in BS Islamic Studies will help graduates in their employment or entrepreneurial careers. Graduates can start different independent initiatives in a number of capacities such as freelancer bloggers, writers and educators. The degree will also facilitate them in securing jobs as editors, researchers and teachers. Graduates with appropriate research aptitude can also pursue Mphil and PhD degrees in the discipline.

Program Objectives

Students are provided a highly conducive environment to learn, explore and investigate various facets of Islam as a religious tradition, as a civilization and as a culture through standard curricular and extra-curricular activities. The key objective has been to enable students to engage critically question like:

How Islam stands out among world religions as an authentic divine guidance for humanity?
What are the fundamental sources of Islam and the core disciplines of Islamic knowledge?
How does Islam inform, and accommodate, different cultural experiences and practices across the world?
In what ways have Muslims contributed to the development and progress of human history and civilization?
What kind of guidance does Islam provide vis-à-vis the practical problems and dilemmas of contemporary human society?

Program Structure

The curriculum has been designed keeping in view different academic, social and career-related needs of the students. Courses are divided into the following four key areas:

University’s core courses that all undergraduate students must study. They typically include English Language, Introduction to Computers, Islamic Studies, Pak Studies, and Social Integration Program (SIP).
Compulsory disciplinary courses that cover Arabic Language, Qur’an, Hadith, Fiqh, Seerah of the Prophet SAW, Islamic History, and Islamic Thought and Culture.
Elective interdisciplinary courses that familiarize students with a range of Social Sciences and Humanities, e.g., Economics, Psychology, Political Science, Sociology and Philosophy, etc.
Skill-based training that will help students in their employment or entrepreneurial careers after graduation. Students can make a choice between English Language Teaching (ELT), Child Education, Information Technology, Basic Accounting, Islamic Banking, and Social Media, etc.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria

The University welcomes applications from students who have successfully completed up to Grade 12 schooling. The more specific criteria follow:

FSc (Pre-Engineering / Pre-Medical).
Intermediate with Arts or General Science or Commerce.
Advanced Levels (A’ Levels).
Minimum 45% or equivalent marks in intermediate or equivalent qualification.
Any other equivalent grade 12 degree approved by the Ministry of Education.
